I will have to rate this a 3 because the story was kind of all over the place. I was going to give it a 2 but the ending was better than I thought it would be. The characters in this book were not very likeable and the book was waaaay too long. There were several parts in the beginning that needed to be cut out. The first half of this book felt pretty pointless and directionless, I wanted to give up on it several times. The first half just feels like way too much build up that isn't necessary and is filler. After the halfway point, it got better. Alice grew on me after a bit and I loved some of the elephant facts and learning about them, but it was a bit much at points.
The ending was decent and I liked that part, finding out the truth behind her mother and the deaths.
