Fakers with Benefits by Willow Dixon
4.0
After reading [b:Stepbrother Dearest|141222882|Stepbrother Dearest (Crimson Club #1)|Willow Dixon|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1686741580l/141222882._SY75_.jpg|157032721], I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Nick’s story. Fakers with Benefits was enjoyable and easy to read, but left me wanting more depth from both Nick and Evan throughout the whole story.
Nick Sorensen is a barista during the week and a stripper on the weekends, putting his androgynous good looks to work. He has a penchant for being late and absentminded but is an absolute sweetheart - he always speaks his mind and what runs through his head is random, hilarious and always entertaining. I loved when we got to see him in all of his unrestrained glory. Nick is a bit of a fashionista, always up for taking risks with what he wears and challenging gender norms, but is too broke to buy the things he loves even with working two jobs.
Evan Williams is a businessman and a millionaire from an affluent family who values traditions and appearances more than real relationships. He’s working to make not only his company a success but also to set his father’s company up to do more when he inherits it, putting him on competitors’ radar and making his safety questionable at times.
When Evan meets Nick at his sister Emily’s bachelorette party, these two enter into an unconventional, yet mutually beneficial fake relationship. Even though a lot of their time together is spent at fancy cocktail parties and events for Evan, he and Nick get to know a lot more about each other when they’re not performing for an audience. What starts out as mutual attraction turns into a lot more pretty quickly (maybe a little too quickly?) and they become integral parts of each other’s lives. Their relationship felt easy but I wanted a little more depth, conflict, something to show me who these two really were and how deep their feelings went for each other. Evan was Nick’s protector throughout, but their lack of substantial conversation really started to get to me after a while. They work together in so many ways, I just would have liked to see more of that.
I LOVED Vlado’s character and was so happy to see where things ended for him - he deserved it and I had a feeling that’s where it would go! And I’m excited for more Crimson Club stories to come - all of the guys are so unique and can’t wait to see who they all end up with.
