Curious George by Margret Rey, H.A. Rey

do you ever start to read a beloved childrens classic and with every page go hm: is this subtextually racist?

worth a read before reading to or gifting this to the children in your life:  A Good Little Monkey: Curious George’s Undercurrent of White Dominance and the Series’ Continued Popularity | Writing Program (bu.edu)

divorced from the time it was published (1941) and knowledge of the nature of antiblack caricature on children's media of the time, one could say that this series is fine. but why divorce that? why continue sharing stories with that shadow and without speaking against it, when there are so many other stories to tell? food for thought!
