An Irish Country Doctor
by Patrick Taylor
3.5⭐️
This was a nice read, though I would have liked it better with a bit more of a plot. What you get here is daily life for a pair or doctors in a small Irish town. I could see this being a cute BBC series (of the same vein as Call the Midwife or All Creatures Great and Small - which is basically the same story, but centred around 2 veterinarians). The main focus, from what I could figure out, is how Barry Laverty matures and realizes that country practice is a lot less neat and by the book than he imagined.
There were a few character things I was annoyed with, specifically how Barry reacts to Patricia after their dinner date. I hated that. We’re supposed to be rooting for him, but he reacts with very little understanding and has a tantrum over her being honest and straightforward with him. Ugh.
I may continue reading the series, if I want something gentle and nice, with hope that Barry becomes less of an idiot.
