This book is such an excellent analysis of the culture around gender in Japan. The author beautifully dissects every character she introduces to show the raw character behind them and is never afraid to make the bad guys good and the good guys bad. Riku although the protagonist isn’t the main character of any story really allowing the narration of her experience as a journalist to flow easily. A slow read but a fantastic one if you’re a fan of strong friendships and character exploration.
