The Magic Thief by Sarah Prineas, Antonio Javier Caparo
5.0

This was a really solid story, engaging and delightful. It was fairly simple because of its intended audience, but it wasn't dumbed-down. I really appreciate that in a children's book because so many authors seem to think that aiming it at children means using small words and hand-holding readers through every single thought process instead of teaching how to extrapolate. This book didn't hand-hold, just laid all the blocks of the plot in place to let you follow.

I was actually more engaged than I realized by the end, and will be seeking the next one. It's a very quick read and it's not breaking new, earth-shattering ground, but it was very enjoyable.
