I've never read any of Ellen Hopkins books so I had no idea what to expect. A student recommended that I read "Burned" so I finally picked it up, and was unable to put it down. The story of Pattyn and her struggles w/ love, religion, and family is quite vivid throughout the book. There are surprises around every corner and the ending was more than unexpected. Pattyn lives in a world that I can't believe still exists, in our own country none the less. I would recommend this book to anyone!
