I remember adoring this book to pieces when I was younger, and upon re-reading it, I'm not totally sure why, so I sadly downgraded my rating on it. The language initially felt annoying to read, though after about a quarter of the way through, I got used to it and finally started to enjoy the book. Same with the MC - she annoyed me at first, but I got into her more as went. I really like that this was not a typical fairytale - probably exactly what first drew me too forever ago, as "fractured fairytales" are my absolute favorite thing - and I love that the main girl is spunky, determined, and very determined to make her own way and save herself rather than depend on rescuing, ever. And the ending is a lot of fun, with the twist at the castle with the curse and all. Overall quite fun, just not the absolute perfection I remembered.
