I did not think this book was going to get deep, but damn was I WRONG.
Not only was the story, beautiful and moving, it also dealt with trying to break generational trauma, which I think is such a beautiful topic to talk about, especially for a book that looks to be fun and witty, (which it absolutely still was). Also tip: if you can listen to the audiobook do it! It’s such a well narrated book and all the characters have different voices, highly recommend.
I absolutely loved all of the characters, they brought so much life and joy to the story in times when the main character, Mika desperately needed it. I could relate to Mika’s story so well and I think it’s so important for readers to connect somewhat with the characters and I certainly did. I did not think a book like this would make me tear up a bit, but alas it did. I loved that Mika was Indian and not a white woman. So many of these witchy fantasy books are white women so it’s fun to see some diversity (finally) in this cozy fantasy genre.
I loved the little side romance (I won’t say names!!!) that was very unexpected and super fun.
This was such a cozy book that led to a surprisingly emotional roller coaster, it had a few twists and I couldn’t get enough of it. I’m so excited to continue reading Sangu Mandanna’s books!
