Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter

Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter has to be one of the best books I’ve read in 2023. As my first book by this author, I wasn’t sure what to expect from her, sure I’d heard some good things, but I was still unsure going in. I’m glad I decided to go through with it. This books was emotional, dark, tense and disgusting.

We follow Claire and Lydia, two sisters who lost their oldest sister Julia many years ago at the age of 19. Claire is just coming to terms with her husbands apparent death, while Lydia is dealing with her daughter Dee growing up and the prospect of her boyfriend Rick moving in.

Pretty Girls kept me hooked throughout the story, there were so many twists and shock revelations that I couldn’t put it down until I knew what happened next. Paul isn’t who he says he is? Claire’s world comes crashing down around her and doesn’t know who to turn to.

The story went at a good pace, some parts were a bit over explained but I didn’t mind. It made the characters seem fleshed out.
