My favorite story was the Compartment. Every other story I was sort of matching it up with that one, and felt like they weren’t as good. But nonetheless, the conclusion of every story gave me chills. Carver is so masterful at quickly inviting you into these characters’ inner lives and making you feel like you’re a part of them. Then, in his signature ambiguous endings, you somehow feel as if you can see their future quite clearly. A wonderful reading experience.
