Irish Eyes by Kathy Hogan Trocheck

Have really enjoyed this series with all it's quirky characters. Was a little sad when Bucky, one of the main characters, gets shot and eventually dies. It is always a tough thing when one of the characters you like is killed.
This story starts with a celebration for St. Patrick's day which then moves on to Bucky getting shot. Callahan is determined to figure out who did it. She is up against the police department as they seem to think that Bucky may have been involved in some illegal activities. The issue of low salaries for police officers and the need to work side jobs is brought up and a main story in the book. Callahan is also dealing with her ongoing relationship with boyfriend, Mac. They seem to resolve things but the ending is still a bit vague.
Lots of intrigue, humor involving her House Mouse workers, and some sadness when some she discovers who some of the bad guys are.
Good read.
