Kind of Hindu by Mindy Kaling

4.0

This is the first of six books in Mindy Kaling's Nothing Like I Imagined (Except for Sometimes) Series. These books are short stories about her life. In this edition, Kaling talks about her life growing up as a non-practicing Hindu. She is a first-generation Hindu-American whose divorced parents met in Nigeria and come from different areas of India, and different sects of Hinduism. After coming to America, they embraced some American traditions and celebrations, and only sometimes celebrated Hindi traditions. After the birth of her daughter, Kaling contemplated whether she should continue to be a "kind of Hindu" or learn more about her religion to pass on to her daughter.

Cute story. I generally like Kaling's humor. I plan to read the rest of the series.
