I really enjoyed this one. I don't read a lot of thrillers as I find they can all get a bit samey in my head. What I liked about this is that it felt different from the usual who dunit. The crime is actually an historical one but the revealing of it has a big impact on the younger generation who are all innocent.
I liked how the author created a sympathic character in Rose and I thought the writing of her with dementia was done really well. It worked in the plot and felt realistic. The book also delves into how challenging it was for women to be in same sex relationships in the past and how it afforded you no protection from men. Again I thought that was really well written and realistic that they would have hidden that about themselves to protect themselves.
The other thing I liked about this book is that whilst there was one clear baddie the other one was more complex than that leaving you to really consider how you felt about her and what she had done and maybe more importantly what she had done since that moment. No spoilers here so you will have to read it for yourself but a solid 4 stars from me. My second Claire Douglas and I look forward to reading some more by her in the future
