Some of the relationship drama's tendency to really overtake the plot bothered me a little bit this time around, so I can't give it a full five stars. I'm sure someone might scoff, especially since I've read all the other Shadowhunters books up to this point in publication order, so it's not like I don't know that's the entire thing with this particular world. I do. I know that acutely well. But there are still going to be points where it does exasperate me more than usual.

Don't misunderstand however; I did enjoy this book a lot and I maintain that C.C. gets better with each series she writes in this world. I am still biased towards The Infernal Devices trilogy, but this trilogy is truly shaping up to be a worthy successor to it. I'm really hoping the third book finishes well. Definitely exciting to see more of the world-building surrounding the Princes of Hell coming into play and being explored. It really feels like epic proportions that the Mortal Instruments and The Dark Artifices don't even begin to touch.
