The Night Swim by Megan Goldin

3.0

This one left me lukewarm. I for one would definitely not listen to Rachel's podcast because it sounds overwrought. I also thought Rachel's journalistic ethics were questionable. The trial at the center of the book should have been riveting but wasn't, mostly because it's hard for the reader to feel the urgency of it when the main character is busy brushing it aside to chase another lead. The twist did surprise me as I was sure another person was the guilty party. It could have been a good twist but it just plain didn't work for me because the guilty party in question didn't have any space to grapple with it, which could have made for a really fascinating plot twist. I think this book, like Goldin's previous one, is ambitious but doesn't quite make the cut.
