3 stars. Funnily enough when I first saw this book get announced earlier this year my first thought was that it didn’t need to exist. Bird Box was a fantastic book (minus the ending) but I was excited to read this one because I just knew Malerman was going to do something awesome with this one. My original thoughts were right. This didn’t need to happen. It adds nothing to the original and it doesn’t do anything new or interesting with the world. I do really like Malerman’s writing though and Malorie is such a fascinating character, hence the three stars but I hope that if he does add another book that he does something different because as it is I would say you’re definitely not missing anything if you decide to just stick to Bird Box and skip over this one.
