The Rosie Effect by Graeme Simsion

2.0

NOT happy with how Don was treated by another main character in this book. All of the people that know Don have seemed to have an understanding of his tendencies, and in this book it seemed like they completely forgot how his brain works.

*Small Spoiler, but not really*

I also do not like the deception in the beginning. His wife was WRONG for ehat she did. So wrong. Children are a blessing for many, but what she did was entrapment and deceit.

Finally, CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE CALF BIRTH?!?! SO VERY VERY VERY MANY THINGS WRONG WITH THIS SCENARIO!!!! Not how that would have gone realistically at all.

1. Breech calves need to be assisted immediately. There would have been no waiting.

2. Pulling with chains is often done by hand. Sometimes a calf puller (kind of a winch) is used, but there is no way ANYONE on planet earth would hook the chains to a TRACTOR to deliver. That would rip the calf's legs off and damage the cow irreparable.

3. Calves breaking legs is common, and usually not because of the chains used to deliver. Very often they can be set and wrapped for 6 weeks. They are little and heal fast and there is often not even a tiny trace that they had a broken limb early in life.

I DETEST inaccuracies on topics that require very little research to get correct. You know what? Because of this, I am dropping from 3 stars to 2.

Be nicer to Don!
