Dad Next Door by Willow Dixon

3.0

I’ve been waiting for Quinn’s book since this series started and I’m a little disappointed to say that this one was just okay for me - sweet but missing something I can’t quite put my finger on.

Quinn Reynolds has a lot of jobs - explicit content creator/influencer, stripper, construction company owner…his time and attention are pulled in a lot of directions but his next door neighbor seems to draw it to him more often than not. Tristan Winters is a veterinarian and a relatively newly single dad to Leo who never really takes him to do or enjoy anything for himself until he starts spending time with his next door neighbor Quinn.

These two are super sweet together - Quinn’s ability to bolster Tristan up after years of emotional abuse by his ex-husband was so great to read and the way Tristan understands Quinn and his needs seemed ingrained in his character. But I feel like so much of this book was based on the author telling us things that happened between them instead of showing them to us, which made this story a little difficult to get through. Yes, they were sweet together, but so much of the focus was either on Quinn and his ADHD or Tristan’s work troubles and I think their romance took a backseat. I wish I got to see more of them falling for each other, not just read about it happening off page. I also wish we got to see more of Leo throughout the story, both with his dad and with Quinn…if there’s going to be a single dad who’s an active participant in his son’s life, I want to see that play out more.

Overall this one was okay, definitely not my favorite of the series but I’m looking forward to the next one - the setup is intriguing!
