This book was a wild ride to be sure. The adventure that Lux and her boyfriend Nico embark on has many twists and turns and the setting of Meroe Island definitely has the reader on edge. When two seemingly sweet but privileged girls offer to pay Nico to take them to a secluded island, he jumps at the chance but Lux is more hesitant. The characters were never what they seemed and that left me, as a reader, feeling unsettled and unsure who to trust (which was probably the goal of Hawkins). I found the plot propulsive and I read this very quickly but I felt like most of the action was jammed into the last 50-100 pages. I wish that there would have been more explanation or discovery in the story but, again, I feel that this was an intentional choice by the author. Thriller lovers will definitely be pulled in by the premise and setting, just be prepared to not feel completely satisfied with the ending.
