Anno Dracula by Kim Newman

4.0

Probably one of the most fascinating ideas for a novel I've seen! Enjoyed all the crossovers and references I understood while reading, as well as those explained in the annotations at the end.

I've already thoroughly enjoyed one sequel to Dracula in "The Eight People Who Murdered Me" by Gwendolyn Kiste. This one went in quite a different direction, yet placed similarly great emphasis on the death of Lucy Westenra - though this time from the male suitors' eyes.

I won't go too deeply into it but exploring Newman's worldbuilding and incorporation of various texts was certainly worth the read. I disliked how heavily the narration tries to mimic the problematic language of the time, though I can see where Newman held to more modern standards.

Will read the first sequel at some point, overall very impressed with this creative achievement.
