I really wanted to like this more because I loved House of Hollow, but even though the writing was beautiful, I just couldn't get past the violence. This has to be the goriest book I've ever read, and I'm a regular horror reader. The author spent way too much time describing the really violent and gory aspects of the plot that it slowed everything down and eventually I had to start skipping huge chunks of the book because it was just too gross and too detailed. I love the idea of this book and the three main characters but it was so disturbing that at times I just found it hard to slog through.
