The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame
5.0

A children's book with hidden depths - some of the best characterization I've read in years and great examples of "show not tell" how the characters are feeling. And beautiful, lyrical descriptions of the English countryside. It's clear why this is a classic & still loved by children (& grown-up kids)!

The edition I read was also enhanced by illustrations by Robert Ingpen. I love my Kindle but I'm very glad that I borrowed this in hard copy for the benefit of those lovely pictures!
