The Trouble With Women
by Jacky Fleming
// The Trouble With Women by Jacky Fleming
If you could make a perfect cocktail of feminism and sarcasm, this book would be it. In this book of cartoons, Jacky makes hilarious points about why not many women made into history books and disses the patriarchal society. She teleports us to centuries ago when women were forced to wear corsets and to act all dainty while men, obviously went out to study and work. To this day, there are a fair share of people who still strongly believe that a woman's role is always within the confines of a home. Jacky ridicules this notion and oh, how cleverly she does it!
If there's one book that summaries feminism and also of how not to be a sexist, this one is it. History has largely been written and told by men, perhaps this is why they refuse to acknowledge a woman's contribution. Jacky lists down the names of several famous male scientists, writers and doctors who considered themselves geniuses and made derogatory remarks about women. The male species as a whole has always had the upper hand and their sole purpose was to be that way by not listening to women. Even to this day, women who voice their choices and opinions are considered 'fallen' or 'bold'. Because women are meant to be quiet for within their silence lies dignity. Geniuses like Darwin, Freud, Jean-Jacques Rousseau and many others found ridiculous reasons to stop women from claiming their freedom. The Trouble With Women is basically history retold through the eyes of a woman. It's not deep, heavy or even narrated with dates. But the cheeky and snarky manner in which Jacky narrates the entire book is downright witty.
I highly recommend this.
