The Curtain and the Wall: A Modern Journey Along Europe's Cold War Border by Timothy Phillips
adventurous
informative
medium-paced
4.0
This is one of my favourite types of non-fiction - a mix of travelogue and history. I read a lot of books about The Cold War and the Berlin Wall but I still learnt a lot from this and I found Phillips' journey absorbing. It was fascinating to read about the history of restricted movement and how that relates to migrants today. It reminded me a little of Border by Kapka Kassabova which had a similar premise but focused on the Bulgarian border with Greece and Turkey.
Moderate: Death, Police brutality, War, and Xenophobia
Minor: Suicide
