All My Puny Sorrows by Miriam Toews
5.0

This book devastated me over and over again, and then picked me up off the ground, kissed my wounds, and invited me out to play again. Toews captures the messiness and imprecision and incredible beauty of syblings grappling with suicide - filled with ridiculous, adorable, acute details of being a single mom, spending long hours in the hospital, and trying to keep track of precocious kids and misbehaving adults. A scrumptious read from beginning to end with a irresistible and relentless sense of humor and hope. Sweet and bitter like a terrific meal made by a new friend who you know you want to hang out with again.
