I understood Annabeth, I understood Bently, and I felt dreadfully sorry for both of them. The pain they both went through was clear, and so well written. When you find yourself almost shouting at the characters as if they were real people making damn stupid choices, you know the author has done a good job.
For me, the HEA was between the wrong people, but that's life.
