jenmcgee 's review for:
The Lady in the Lake
by Raymond Chandler
Less contemplative and melancholy than my first Chandler, The Long Goodbye (not surprising since it's a decade earlier), The Lady in the Lake also has a lot more black humor and dry wit to it, even as the bodies keep piling up. A lot less psychology (well, beyond "Dames. They'll mess you up,") keeps this from being as enjoyable for me, but the plot holds together tightly and Marlowe is a lot less world-weary and sarcastic, which is less deep but more fun.
