“If you wanted, I would burn down the world for you.”
“If you let lesser people determine your self-worth, you'll never reach higher than their limited imagination.”
“You don’t have to work overtime to get people to love you, Ava. Love isn’t earned, it’s given.”
This was a fun ride. I'm not super into the possessive MMC trope but didn't hate it here. I think her childhood trauma lends a bit of authenticity to the idea that her brother was really protective and as soon as Alex found out too, his protectiveness ramped up which also made sense. The overly broody/possessive love interest is definitely overdone but I absolutely knew what I was getting into and enjoyed it a lot. In real life? Major turn off. In a book boyfriend? Doesn't suck.
This also had the grumpy sunshine trope which I kind of adore. Honestly, what trope did this book not have? Some of the plot twists were a bit heavy-handed but it added to the drama, for sure. Ultimately, I have a lot of writing complaints but I had a ton of fun with this book.
