Cunk on Everything: The Encyclopedia Philomena by Joel Morris, Jason Hazeley, Philomena Cunk

5.0

Either you love it, or you hate it. Or you love to hate it after a while. Philomena Cunk (played by Diane Morgan) is British comedy gold, and I knew the BBC shows before I read the book. Concerning the style of writing and humour, the book’s arbitrary entries are almost identical to what you might know from tv. The major difference is that you might find the tv show more pleasant and probably funnier than the book. This is possibly due to the structure of the book, which is a list of pseudo-encyclopedic entries explained by Philomena Cunk in her words and according to what she thinks is right. Some entries are loosely connected, and all entries are written in a similar way, out of Cunk’s point of view, with hilarious and absurd explanations for the most part. It is only that after a while the pattern behind this can become slightly repetitive, and that’s why I subtract half a star.
So, all in all 4.5 out of 5 stars.
