Killers of a Certain Age by Deanna Raybourn

adventurous inspiring mysterious medium-paced

4.0

This book was honestly so good and so different from all the mystery thrillers I’ve read so far. This lays on the more assassin/detective sort of side of the mystery thriller spectrum, with the fictional association that recruits and trains young people to become agents who off the ‘bad people’. These agents are employed on secret missions to kill underground mafias, ex-nazis and other dangerous people. The interesting part of the plot is that the book follows four women who become highly trained agents in their youth who are now at retirement age. They go on a cruise to celebrate their retirement but it takes the turn for the worse and they are now escaping a hit called on them by their own agency. This book skillfully weaves sexism that females experience in their fields and how they are always underestimated, and these strong women rise to the situation and show that they can do everything a man can, and better too. The mind games and strategies they use for their plans is an absolute delight to read about.

I started this book a while back and dropped it because I got busy and then completely forgot to finish it, and recently I resumed the book again. And even though I took a huge break in the middle of the book, I still remembered the story (because of how interesting it was) and thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the book.
