Flash and Bones by Kathy Reichs

3.0

I'm sorry to say it, but I was a little disappointed in this book. I think the previous books in the series were of such high caliber that I had high expectations for it. I'm afraid it just didn't quite live up.
I felt that the forensics took a back seat to police work in this story. And the police work wasn't even being done by the police most of the time, but rather Brennan and a security guard with a suspicious past. The forensics was the original reason I started reading this series. Without it, it's just another murder mystery.
That brings me to the issue of having yet another potential love interest introduced. Didn't Brennan have her hands full with the other two men in her life, but to add further confusion for her (and the reader) with the smokin' hot ex-cop, Cotton Galimore? Not that I have anything against the attractive male characters, but I just felt that she didn't have a connection with Galimore, constantly comparing him to Detective Ryan or attorney Charlie Hunt.
I found the plot a little thin, as well as the characters. When I'm 14 books into a series, I expect to find the characters changing and growing, but instead they are very much back at square one. I truly hope the next book will be back to her usual standard.
