Dirty Curve
by Meagan Brandy
A home run!
I don’t think Meagan could write any book I wouldn’t love. She has a way of making these simple characters so much more than what we see on the outside. Your first opinions are bound to change halfway through the book and you connect so much with them. This book is no different. When I read the blurb I was interested, but it didn’t pull me in like her others. I waited a bit to read and I wished I would have picked it up sooner.
Meyer is a tutor for the athletics department at her university. She is paired with Tobias, the school’s star pitcher and well known playboy. Meyer doesn’t want to tutor him but is given no choice by her boss who also happens to be the baseball coach. Their start is a bit awkward. Meyer doesn’t make it easy for Tobias like others have in the past. She makes him work for his grades. All Tobias cares about is his baseball career and he puts his heart and soul into the game. After weeks of tutoring sessions they start to feel things for each other. But there are other obstacles in their way.
I liked that this was a slow burn and they didn’t just rush into things. We see the build up and how their feelings change for each other. We get to see Tobias' true self and not just what the papers and news shows. He is such a kind, caring person. He doesn’t judge Meyer for her life and becomes a person she can rely on. I think this is one of the few books I enjoyed the hero more than the heroine. Meyer is a great character too. She is struggling but you wouldn’t know it on the outside. She takes her school work and job seriously. She will do anything for those she loves. Another thing I liked about this book is it is more male pov than the fmc. I love getting inside the guy’s head and Tobias didn’t disappoint. The twist threw me off. The whole book I thought I knew what the revelation would be and it was smashed to pieces. I did not see that coming. It ended with a hint at another book in the same universe so I’ll be keeping my eyes open for that one.
