When I went to start this book, I was worried due to the polarized reviews on various apps. However, I decided to give this a go and I wasn’t disappointed. Is it the best spicy book I have ever read? No, but it was well done and entertaining all the same! This is my first Ana Huang book, and I will definitely read some more of her stuff!

Potential spoilers below!

I can completely understand the reviews that discuss it being horrible, Alex saying some of the worst things to Ava, etc. However, I didn’t find his possessiveness really any worse than some other male protagonists in other dark-romance type novels. I will say that some of his phrases and stalking tendencies in the last quarter of the book while he was trying to win Ava back were pretty icky. I actually lend this to that the book was extended beyond its natural closure. I think Huang tried to provide a more satisfying conclusion and resolution for Amex and Ava, but ended up making everything about their relationship more cringey.

I will say I absolutely loved that his final act of love was doing the one thing he refused to do…a wonderful character growth moment that actually had me swoon. All in all, I really enjoyed this book and am glad I gave it a chance. I read this via audiobook and will say the narrators, Aiden and Cindy, did a fabulous job!
