I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book, specifically how it's written. The main character is pretty snarky and at first I was a little concerned that I'd found a sort of macho-cop-detective-swagger thing and enjoy the general plot but find a few cringey bits about the guy's tone or attitudes that would take a few brownie points off, but actually I ended up just liking the whole thing. There are both big running chunks of narration and big running chunks of dialog as well as A LOT of reading in between the lines of both, and it's that sense of what you're not exactly saying out loud but everyone knows you're getting at that brings it together for me.
