A Brush with Love by Mazey Eddings
3.0

This one started off strong, held fast in the middle, but ultimately fell a little flat for me towards the end.

As a whole, it was a cute, stereotypical romcom, and Dan and Harper were adorable together! Toward the end, their dialogue got WAY too over the top and cheesy for me, which is saying something because I'm all about some good romcom speeches. But it was just awkwardly cringey at times.

The major reason behind Harper going into dental school didn't completely make sense to me. I know she explained it and told her justification, but it still didn't make sense why she chose dentistry specifically and not some other area of the medical field. It seemed like the author really wanted to tell a dental student story (which was super interesting and unique) but had to make a reason for it to work for Harper because of her traumatic past.

I enjoyed the Jewish representation, the open discussion/description of characters with anxiety, and the diversity of the side characters! I think they each could have very interesting stories in future books, and who didn't love Big Booty Judy?! I also loved Dan and Harper's slow-burn, friends to lovers, forbidden love story. Their banter was fantastic, and they had such amazing chemistry. And just so we're all clear where I stand on this Spider-Man issue...Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield. In that order.

Dan's relationship with his parents was heart-wrenching and easily relatable. I appreciated how his struggle was shown, and the book didn't shy away from acknowledging the complex emotions that come with losing someone you're "supposed to" love, even though you have angry/hurt feelings toward them.

Overall, this one had the potential to be 4 stars, but for me, the over the top mushy dialogue at the end really threw me off, and Harper's reasoning for pursuing dentistry felt forced. Other than that, it's a cute, entertaining read that I'd still recommend!
