What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher
3.5
"But this place has made me afraid. This dreadful house. I think I would rather face a line of rifles, even now. At least that's a human enemy."
This is a pretty solid retelling of Poe's "Fall of House of Usher". Kingfisher excels at describing the gothic and the nebulous, eerie atmosphere that plays with the psyche. The body horror is also aptly written; would definitely recommend to people who love reading about nature at its absolute worst. My main reservation is that the writing style doesn't always feel consistent, especially with the stiff dialogue at times.
