At the Mountains of Madness: And Other Tales of Terror by H.P. Lovecraft
4.0
I read the Omnibus 3 with all the classic short stories (e.g. 'Call of Cthulhu') first, so the novels (long and short) in this collection were quite different from what I thought Lovecraft was about. I loved 'At the Mountains of Madness' and 'The Case of Charles Dexter Ward', creepy stories in the real sense of the word. However, I'm not such a big fan of the Dreamland and Randolph Carter stuff. I also loved Brian Lumley's take on the Cthulhu mythos, at least until it started going increasingly into the fantasy direction and away from the disturbing horror that Lovecraft is such a master of. Anyway, can't wait to read the Omnibus 2...
