The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

4.0

Going into The Song of Achilles, I have never read the source material, The Iliad, so I was worried that there would be a disconnect for me- this was not the case at all.

Miller has such an enchanting and lyrical prose which combined with the setting, helped create such an atmospheric reading experience. There were so many heart wrenching quotes in this, all to do with love and life experiences, which really struck a chord with me.

This is the story of the fall of Troy but mainly the connection between Achilles and Patroclus as they head to war. I enjoyed the tale being told from Patroclus’ POV as I believe most retellings are told from Achilles himself- so I liked this unique aspect.

At the end of it all, Achilles and Patroclus deserved so much more and the ending nearly had me in tears. Will definitely be picking up Circe by the same author!
