One for Sorrow
by Mary Downing Hahn
I bought this book for The Kid as she's really into creepy stories and hadn't read any Hahn before. This book moves slower and is kind of sadder than the other Hahn books I've read (Deep and Dark and Dangerous comes to mind), and, that makes the ghost and her interactions with the living even creepier and more meaningful. Honestly, the ending is pretty sad and made me even more aware of how we need to treat others with tenderness and respect.
