Titan by John Varley

5.0

Awesome! Varley is making a case for being one of my favorite authors with a strong second read. His novels exude imagination and creativity, and they’ve aged fairly well compared to other authors writing around the same time. Varley consistently has well-written, likeable female characters (which unfortunately is worth noting for a sci-fi novelist in the ‘70s) and I appreciate his progressive outlooks on the future that feel ahead of its time. Aside from all that though, Titan was just a bunch of fun. It’s like if you took “Rendezvous with Rama” but threw in a bunch of centaurs and finally added a splash of “The Wizard of Oz.” THIS is what Rama should have done to hold my interest apparently..

Great sense of adventure and discovery with a satisfying and unexpected ending. Will definitely read on further into the trilogy and I genuinely can’t imagine what’ll be next.
