This one was markedly better than the previous two in the series. However, I do just have so many problems with this series and I cannot understand how no answers are ever given book-to-book.
It all comes down to world-building and this series is just so severely lacking in it. Each book introduces another set of questions and is more unbelievable in how things are working.
There is a magical barrier protecting the city, and there is a barrier to Hades' territory, but who is making this barrier? How is there magic, but not magic? There are gods and everyone is named some relation to mythology, but no one actually is that person. So Achilles and Patroclus just happen to be together? Hades and Persephone just happen to get together? No mentions of fate, just coincidence?
I think that Achilles and Patroclus were a fine couple. They had things they needed to address and work through. Adden Helen to the mix felt like an old married couple trying to spice things up. I think Achilles objectified Helen too much and never felt like he cared about her and I know his growth was getting over it, but it still didn't feel natural and like more of a concession to Patroclus wanting her. It felt like Helen was just a novelty to them, despite the ending. Like, one day they could just wake up and decide to dump her and still be together.
I liked this one a bit more, but it was still weak in a lot of areas.
