neems23 's review for:
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow
by Gabrielle Zevin
There are many points in the book where I wanted to give up because a part of the plot was mundane or the characters were being assholes or something unrealistic happened. But then I kept reading anyway, and eventually something special happened, and I realized it was worth it to continue.
Kinda like life.
Likes:
- the reminder that adults need play too
- the depiction of the creative process
- learning about the complexity of video games and the art of creating them
- the platonic friendship between sam & marx
- that sam & sadie do not get together at the end
Dislikes:
- sadie & dov’s toxic relationship: power dynamics; “to have the illusion of choice without actual choice”
- the way depression was touched on but never addressed head on
- rather unexpected and jarring inclusion of gun violence
