I'm not quite sure what to say about this book. It's really good, I loved it and it had me at 4 am. in tears.

Iris's journey was meaningful. I was outraged at all she had to endure, and quite proud of how she fought for her freedom. August is just everything else. We didn't go too deep into his story beyond his perseverance to be with Iris, but Kennedy Ryan: Thank you for him.

What this book left me missing was more of August, Iris, and Sarai's life as a family. After all the hard stuff, I would have really enjoyed a few chapters of them just being happy. But beyond that, it's amazing and highlights an important lesson: you never know what people are going through behind closed doors.

"Sometimes, we stand at a juncture on which our path, our very life can turn. A fork in the road. Sometimes the heart speaks in whispers, and by the time we hear, by the time we listen, it’s too late and we don’t know. We don’t know that we should have turned right instead of left. Chosen one instead of the other. But now, in the retreat of my mind, I know.

And I kiss him."

“Breathe out the lies,” she says. “That it was your fault. That you failed. That you are what he said you were.”
...
“Breathe in truth.” Her hands are busy in the air over me, slicing through lies. “You are pure. You are enough. You are strong.” She leans closer, her whisper as sharp and fierce as the knife in her drawer. “He can’t hurt you.”

I know the next one is Jared's book, but right now I can't stop thinking about Kenan and Lotus!
