Edge of Victory II : Rebirth by Greg Keyes
5.0
LOVED IT. This is the book they could be making Star Wars VII about. Keyes really GETS his Star Wars. It's the main crew united (at least in one book) at last. Luke & Mara. Han, Leia, Jacen and Threepio. Jaina and Rogue Squadron (and Wedge!). Anakin and Tahiri and Corran Horn. It is as if Keyes took the best of the new and original characters and mashed them all into one plausible intersecting storyline web, smack dab in the middle of the Vong invasion of the galaxy. And it works. There's young love blossoming. There's Jedi mind tricks and Jedi duplicity for good and for, perhaps, not so good? Throw in some scandal with Kyp Durron and the politics of the Republic. Add some threads of the inner workings of the Vong infrastructure and class divisions. Give us some awesome Stackpole- and Allston-worthy X-Wing / Rogue Squadron scenes. Tug our heartstrings with defeated Jedi and nearly defeated Jedi. This book simply... WORKS. Bravo, Mr. Keyes.
Oh, and one last thing. Great quote by Kyp in conversation with Jaina. "We, Jaina, are the new Jedi order. And this is *our* war." Ah ha! We finally get the title of the series! Kyp & Jaina's philosophizing about the new era of Jedi Knights & Masters was spot on, and worked.
