Wildlife by Fiona Wood
3.0

the writing style of fiona wood was a bit confusing at first because i didn't know what was happening,, but it became more understandable as i went on so it wasn't a problem as i was reading the rest of the book. this book was good, it was a nice read. i do feel like it's missing something that could make it better.

i liked lou and micheal's characters the best. they fit well together and compliment each other and seem like similar people so i like them together.

micheal is a character i like, but the way his behaviour is written is weird because he is neurodivergent-coded, but is written to be some sort of freak which is how a lot of people do see neurodivergency, but some of his behaviour is more deranged than neurodivergent, which makes me think that fiona was under the stereotype that neurodivergency is just "weird" people.

holly seems a bit like a cartoon villain, to be honest. obviously im not supposed to like her, but some part of her character is a bit 2 dimensional and feels like she's written that way just to have a character people can dislike.

sib is half-n-half for me. i get her, in some ways, like i can see some of myself in her, but other times her actions are very unnecessary and odd, but maybe that's just how she is as a written character. like her relationship with micheal sort of pisses me off because at the start, she mostly sees him as someone to take care of because nobody else will and that really doesn't sit right with me. micheal is obviously neurodivergent coded, and not only does she really infantilize him, fiona wood also includes the r slur in this book as if micheal isn't a character she made neurodivergent??? it doesn't sit right with me.

the slurs weren't necessary, but a thing i did like about this book is lou's letters.

also while reading, i found out that it was the second book of a series, but i will not be reading the others ! <33
