All the stars for how freaking badass Lara was in this book!

However, I really wanted Lara and Aren to go their separate ways — he didn’t deserve her. The whole book is Lara sacrificing her family, her blood, sweat and tears, accepting the emotional abuse and trauma Aren’s people inflicting on her with no recourse. I’m honestly shocked Lara wanted to be near any of them throughout the novel considering how horrible they were towards her.

I know the next two books are about different characters but imagine how epic it would’ve been if Lara had left Aren and realized — as her sister told her — he did not deserve her.

He didn’t once in the whole book step up for her. And, for a significant portion of the book, Lara was without a support system: no friends, no family, no husband.

And about the ending
the author did such a good job convincing me Aren’s people will never accept her that I’m wholly unconvinced by the ending.
