I had read these stories in a different Blackwood collection years before. I always remember loving Blackwood, but I wanted to revisit a few of his classics for the Halloween season. Firstly, Cat People is still fantastic, and I love the writing style. I find something so engaging about how these stories are retold and the old-style narrative structure. I really liked the Listener as well. I thought the narrator was interesting, and the story built good suspense. I didn’t get the Sea Fit when I first read it, and I still do not. The first time I read The Willows, I didn’t get it. I have a greater appreciation for that story and its creepy elements this time, but I still think it is way too long. Blackwood remains a classic and one of my favorites.
