wow i really wasn't expecting to care as much as i did about this book! thought this was going to be a straightforward literary mystery thriller (a la gillian flynn, who coincidentally published sharp places a year before this book came out) but the thing that kept me reading was less the whodunit (idk if it was just me but i felt the red herring leads were too underdeveloped and the set-up for the big reveal was too obvious so i wasn't surprised) and more the psychological breakdown of our main character, rob, and the very sad dissolution of his friendship with is partner, cassie. more 2 come in a proper review but wow, the prose was stunning, perhaps overwritten and overindulgent in parts but you know what?? i loved it!!!
