I think a lot of people act like Miranda July is pretending to be edgy or quirky but imo she just is that way, although I think it is clear she doesn't write autofiction of her own experiences so much as she draws on the stories of others. Makes me wonder if I'll one day find out she's a pedophile also, or if her work is just a reflective criticism of the dysfunctional west coast elite and the super exploitative nature of US capitalism. Or maybe she avoids doing harm in real life by exploring it in fiction, I dunno. She's real good at writing though. Someone told me she was good at understanding human loneliness and I think that's true. It allows her characters to be, if not likable or in any way commendable, sympathetic and lovable.
